Blowouts

Some of the Exiles have discussed the danger of riding close to trucks in the past, besides the normal windblast hazard most of the trucks here are running on tyres that are bald, re-molded or both. Seeing the amount of shredded tyre strewn across the highways and hard shoulder of the UAE made us think about how little chance you'd have if you happened to be next to a truck when its wheel blew up.
Although it's obviously more common here, I figured the chances of that actually happening were still fairly slim but last month one of the buggers very nearly got me. As I was approaching a truck on the Yas road, there was a loud pop that came distinctly from the truck, probably only because there's nothing out there for the sound the reverberate from. I thought he'd run over something but then I saw one of the back wheels shredding and moved over another lane just in time to get pelted by small pieces of hot tyre as the big chunks filled the lane I had been in the second before. It made me glad once again that I was wearing a full face helmet and jacket.
This crap really can happen just when you're in the wrong place so yeah... steer clear of shitty trucks.
